Songbook #9

At college, I took a class on how to spin records. The basics are surprisingly basic. Over winter break of my freshman year, I went down to Beat Street Records in downtown Brooklyn and picked up this Mobb Deep album. This remains my favorite hip hop song. When I got back to school and experimented on the 1s and 2s in my 3 am radio slot and failed miserably, my career as dj expired. I still love rap songs with stories, and there will always be a soft spot in my heart for Nas, whose best work, surprisingly, is now more than twenty years old.
